"HAVE A GOOD DAY"
Psalm 4:6-8

by Pastor Jack Shanks

Full Page Version

You go into a store, make a purchase, and on leaving, the clerk will inevitably say, "Have a good day." I know this is well meant, but I want to ask, "Do you know what a good day is?" In our text the question is, "Who will show us any good?" Show me what good is.

The Psalmist answers the question, "Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us" (V. 6). Lord, enlighten us! How does He do this? "God hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (II Cor. 4:6). This makes a good day.

He answers again in verse 7. "Thou hast put gladness in my heart." In our Lord Jesus Christ there is gladness,no matter the circumstances. His atoning blood puts gladness in our hearts. This makes a good day.

Then in verse 8, "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep." If I am to have a good day, peace is a necessity. "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace..." Then the Psalmist adds, "For thou, Lord, only makest me to dwell in safety." If I am to have a good day, I must be safe. Where shall I find safety? "The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe" (Prov. 18:10).

Yes, in His Name I will "have a good day," thanks be unto His cleansing blood of sacrifice. All days without Him are bad days.
