A Prayer that is Certain to be Answered

Full Page Version (no frames)

John 17:24:

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me,be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

FIRST: Who is Praying?

The Lord Jesus Christ Prays..... Father, I will..... What gives him the authority to say He Will?

A. - Jesus' will and the Father's will are one!

Hebrews:10:7:

Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God..

B. - He and the Father are one

John:10:30:

I and my Father are one.

C. - He finished the work (everything that is required of man...perfectly) he came to do.... so he could pray I will...

John:17:4:

I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

SECOND: For Whom Does He Pray?

The Lord Jesus Chirst tells us six (6) times in this chapter who he prays for....

  1. John 17:9 - I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

  2. John 17:2 - As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

  3. John 17:6 - I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

  4. John 17:11 - And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

  5. John 17:12 - While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

  6. John 17:24 - Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

He said that His Sheep hear his voice...

John:10:27:

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:.

Is there a mark whereby they may be known?

YES.... a certain mark...

YES THEY COME

John 6:37:

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

THEY COME BELIEVING

1Peter:1:8:

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

THEY COME CONFESSING...Confessing HIM and also Confessing THEIR SIN...

Romans:10:9:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Matthew:3:6:

And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

THEY COME CONVERTED

Matthew:18:3:

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

THEY COME LOVINGLY

John:14:23:

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

THEY COME WILLINGLY

Psalm:110:3:

Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

Coming to Christ does not mean that you come to the front of the church, to the preacher, to an alter.... One must COME TO CHRIST.

Who will believe on Him?

Acts:13:48:

And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

Love each other.... you will be known as my deciples if you love each other..

John:13:35:

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

THIRD: What Does He Pray?

The Lord Jesus Chirst prayes that we will BE WITH HIM

Where is he?

Hebrew:1:3:

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

The Lord Jesus Chirst prayes that we will BEHELD HIS GLORY.

His Glory is a three fold Glory...

  1. ORIGINAL GLORY - majestity, with the glory I had before the world began proverbs 8

  2. REDEMPTIVE GLORY - John:1:14: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. - Moses said show me your glory and ....grace

  3. ETERNAL GLORY - called to his eternal glory.

FORTH: Why Should The Father Answer This Prayer ?

for thou loveset me before

The Lord Jesus Christ does not plead for our works, our profession, what we have done, what we have said, what we have given, how many souls we have won... but for CHRIST's SAKE...

Why will the Father answer Christ's prayer.....because GOD LOVETH THE SON.

John:3:35:

The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.

the Lord Jesus Chirst... Son of Man... Son of God... God himself, prays a prayer that is certain to be answered, for them that God has given him, that they should be with Christ forevermore, to behold Christ's Glory.... and the Father answers..... YES BECAUSE I LOVETH THE SON....
